Coffee grounds - after you are done with drinking your favourite cup!

We all love coffee. On average, each of us drinks about 162 liters per year. But what happens to the leftovers in the filter? Coffee grounds are not waste, but a valuable household and care product.

In the past, I just threw away coffee grounds, but it is a valuable raw material for use in the home, garden and cosmetics. Here's what coffee grounds can do:

Take care of pests

A little coffee grounds in the potting soil keeps pests at bay and even fends snails. The same goes for moles. The beneficial earthworms, on the other hand, are attracted by coffee grounds in the compost pile, where they help promote degradation.

By the way, cold coffee infusion is a great remedy for fungal mosquitoes. Just dilute 100 miliilitres of coffee with water in a ratio of 1:1 and pour it into the plant pot. The fungal gally larvae will then die.

If you have an aphid infestation, you can also spray diluted coffee deduction directly on the affected plant parts.

Watch out for wasps!

Wasps like to come to your breakfast on the balcony or terrace. To prevent this, place a bowl of coffee powder or coffee grounds about one meter away from the dining table. Light the powder. The smell and smoke will drive away the flying pests.

Energy for your plants

Coffee is a great manure. Work two handfuls of dried coffee grounds per plant in the soil. You can also throw it on the compost heap. There it will be broken down together with other green waste into valuable mertile and soil. An ideal humus soil for a flowering garden and juicy vegetables.

Tip: Make sure the coffee grounds do not contain mold spores. Otherwise, they can spread into the pot. It is best to let the coffee grounds dry on a plate and only then use it as a mertizer.

Odor neutralizer

In many hotels and restaurants you will see trays with ground coffee or even whole coffee beans. This is also worthwhile at home, for example in the refrigerator, and in the trash can. Coffee neutralizes unpleasant odors.

It also helps against cooking odors on the hands. Just massage the coffee grounds into damp skin. The smell of garlic, onions and fish on your fingers will be a thing of the past.

Remove your old skin

You can take the coffee grounds from the morning in the bath and use it as a scrub for your skin. You can do this alone or with a little honey or olive oil. Sugar enhances the peeling effect. For example, you can use the mixture to massage the moist facial skin. Or you can apply the mixture in circular motions to your legs and buttocks and rinse it lukewarmly in the shower after a short time. The caffeine stimulates the circulation and ensures that the skin looks rosy and firm. If you add oil, the skin also becomes soft and supple. This mixture is also said to reduce and prevent cellulite.

Natural food for your hair!

Coffee grounds are also great as hair treatment. You will need four tablespoons of coffee grounds.

Mix them with a little water to create.a paste. Apply this paste to your scalp and massage it well.

Leave this paste on hair for 10 to 15 minutes.

Then rinse thoroughly with hot water.

The caffeine boost, massage and scrub stimulate blood flow to the scalp, remove dirt and flakes and refine the texture of your hair.

For the rough surfaces

Coffee grounds are an alternative and natural abrasive for cleaning and rinsing. It can also make dull grill grates shine again.

Coffee grounds are even particularly practical for cleaning the inside of vases that are difficult to reach with rags: put a little warm water in it, cover the opening and shake the holder vigorously. Then rinse it out. By the way, rice grains are a good alternative.
